Dear Subscriber,

The Criminal LAWYER, CPD Programme

On December 3rd, 2007, The Solicitors Regulation Authority granted authorised status to Tottel’s CPD Programme for THE CRIMINAL LAWYER JOURNAL edited by Sally Ramage.

THE CRIMINAL LAWYER’s CPD Programme consists of a DISTANCE LEARNING COURSE using multiple-choice questions.

To register for The Criminal LAWYER CPD Programme, you must be a subscriber to The Criminal Lawyer and pay the subscription fee.

The Law Society of England and Wales operates a compulsory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme.

Solicitors are encouraged to assume responsibility for their own development by choosing from the wide range of activities that can be pursued in order to meet the yearly CPD requirement.

All solicitors and registered European lawyers (RELs) who are in legal practice or employment in England and Wales, and work 32 hours or more per week are required to complete a minimum of 16 hours of CPD per year; at least 25 per cent must consist of participation in accredited training courses.

For solicitors and RELs who work fewer than 32 hours per week, the requirements are reduced. For further information, please contact The Law Society online at http://www.lawsociety.org.uk

The Law Society requires that you maintain a Personal Training Record of your CPD (Continuous Professional Development). Each Issue of The Criminal Lawyer when read has a value of one hour of CPD and so the full yearly subscription of The Criminal Lawyer when read has a CPD value of 10 hours or 62.5% of the required CPD credits.

For subscriptions, please contact Tottel Publishing at Tel 01444-41611email: customerservices@tottelpublishing.com

Aims and intended learning outcomes of The Criminal LAWYER CPD Programme:

The Criminal Lawyer’s CPD Programme provides a high standard of United Kingdom criminal law that is relevant to practicing criminal lawyers.

Its aim is to provide principles of criminal law and issues therein.

Having read each Issue of The Criminal LAWYER, the practitioner should have an updated knowledge and appreciation of developments and issues within this area of law.

It also aims to fortify knowledge of current criminal law and its relation to other areas of law.

The Criminal Lawyer contains criminal law articles displaying critical analyses of the criminal law as well as analyses of caselaw, updates on legislation and current criminal law issues.

This encourages and illustrates analysis and evaluation of legal provisions and illustrates to the reader the adoption of a practical approach to problem solving in the profession.

At the very least, the diligent reader will relate to the principles of criminal law, identify key provisions contained in the legislation, and, having been presented with key provisions in relation to criminal law, will in turn, learn how to present these in a highly professional manner.

Book reviews in The Criminal Lawyer are very carefully chosen to encourage the reader of The Criminal Lawyer to read more extensively in his/her area of law.

Such subscriber will also learn how to write a legal argument properly and how to present their legal arguments in legal publications.

This is top-class training given to the subscribing criminal lawyer on a regular basis and in a format that is easy to transport and readable anywhere.

Taking part in this CPD programme with The Criminal Lawyer journal constitutes intensive personal study.

The full series must be read, all question sheets completed and a pass mark of 60% obtained throughout, in order to fulfill the solicitor’s annual portion of CPD hours for distance learning.
